Previewing DICOM Images with OpenDrive

In this day and age, it is becoming increasingly common for just about every type of data to be converted to a digital format. Digitization of files, whether these files are for personal or business use, is necessary for not only convenience but to save space as well. While the need for medical care seems to skyrocket each year, records have to be stored, and those records are taking up increasing amounts of space in medical buildings, labs, hospitals and clinics. To help save as much physical space as possible and provide that necessary convenience, not to mention cost savings, the DICOM standard has been established.

DICOM, which is short for Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine, is a standard for handling, storing and sharing medical imaging documents such as x-rays and body scans. Different medical imaging devices can be linked to computers, servers and printers by a secure protocol that allows digital imaging documents, with full patient data, to be captured, rendered and shared effortlessly and quickly.

When you add the cloud to this system, you add the ability to store thousands of images in one central location and access them from anywhere and from any device. OpenDrive takes this a step further by providing DICOM image preview capabilities, which works the same way as their image preview. Once you locate a folder on your OpenDrive account where your DICOM image is stored, you can quickly browse through the folder and locate the image you want by sight, saving the need to have to reference medical codes or fully download the image, which can often be several megabytes in size.

Just as you would see with a regular image preview, the DICOM image preview allows you to view a snapshot of the image in a preview window, as well as basic file information such as file name, size, modification date, the level of access permissions set for the file and the file’s URL link.

There are also a set of basic controls at the bottom of the window that allow you to quickly and conveniently download the file, obtain direct and thumbnail links, view file versions, send the file to the trash, access and change the file’s properties and browse backward and forward through the folder for other files.

OpenDrive’s servers and system are fully HIPAA compatible, so you can rest assured that storage of your DICOM images on the OpenDrive Cloud will be safe and secure, whether you wish to keep your file access permissions set to private or enable extra password protection and zero-knowledge encryption by storing them in OpenDrive’s Secure Files Folder.

Whether you are looking to save time and space in your process of keeping digital medical records or wish to be able to access those records quickly and easily from any location with an internet connection, OpenDrive provides what you need and more!
